Fixed appliances
Contemporary orthodontic treatment is carried out with fixed appliances. The advantages of the fixed appliances are:
- They function 24 hours a day; therefore they reduce the actual treatment time.
- Compliance factor on behalf of patient is minimum.
- They move and position the teeth and jaws "three – dimensionally".
- They help the orthodontist to achieve high precision, teeth movements.
- They are very easily tolerated by the patient.
Fixed appliances are:
BRACKETS: There are three types of brackets.
- Stainless Steel (photo)

These are esthetic brackets that make their appearance invisible.
PALATAL EXPANDER: (photo) This appliance expands the upper jaw correcting cross – bites this way.

ORTHOPEDIC APPLIANCES: These appliances (flex developer .etc) can correct skeletal discrepancies between upper and lower jaws by growth modification in children, adolescents and even in young adults.

All our patients are given practical advice on the cleaning and maintenance of appliances fitted, together with a kit of sundries to help them. We also call all our patients with newly fitted appliances 2 days later to reassure them, and answer any questions they may have.
